Artistful.com is Ready to Launch

Well the staff at Artistful has been busy around the clock, preparing for the public launch. And the time has finally come . Friday October the 10th is the official date. Art will be available to the public for sale. A press release is being prepared to explain to the public what it is we do here at Artistful. For me it's a place to connect with other artists like myself, share tips and tricks and find inspiration. The gallery pages offer art for sale to the public. There you will find everything from fine art paintings to sculpture, illustrators and jewelry makers. Photographs and prints are also available to buy or just browse... It is my new favorite place on the web.
I am excited about it. Just click the link above to visit my online gallery . From there you can connect to over 1700 artist around the country and over 5000 pieces of art.
See you there!

The Elusive Great Blue Heron

I knew he was here but It took me a couple days to capture this bird. On the last day he landed across the river from me and posed for these cool shots.

New works in progress.

I have been really inspired to paint again recently. Partly due to the artistful website and all of the wonderful artist I have met there. Partly just gettin close to the fall of the year, which is ,in itself inspiring to me.
The painting I am working on now is not particularly a new idea. I mean it is a subject matter I am revisiting. I done a charcoal of my parents about 9 years ago. It was from a family photo taken just before my Dad left to go to Vietnam. (Great photo). I am now doing that one again on a 16x20 canvas in acrylic. I am staying with the black and white and have plans to add the Vietnam Memorial wall in the back ground. We'll see how that goes. I think I will probably be posting it for sale on artistful if all goes well in finishing it.
Well I here brushes calling my name. All for now.

Artistful.com

I am working on getting a portfolio set up on an artist site that is all new to the public. It is a site that allows for posting blogs and art for sale or simply viewing. Also for networking and connecting with new friends in the artist community from around the world. I've seen a lot of nice art there and it is all searchable by category , price or artist.
Coming in September, it will be open to the public to make purchases from fine art to t-shirts, sculpture and much more. I will be using the Dreaming in Color user name . The link can be found at the bottom of this page.
Thanks,
Dave

Sullivan's

Thanks to Brad and Sherry Sullivan for the opportunity to paint this cool leprechaun in their billiards room.

Saturday, August 16, 2008

Hey, it's been a while...

Not posted anything in a while so I thought I would update. Ran into an old friend the other day. Well not exactly ran into , but a friend of mine was talking to her and found out we knew each other. Sherry owns Sullivan's sports bar in Smyrna. ( very nice bar by the way). It was good to be reminded of yesterday and take a little walk down memory lane. Chris and I are going to do a leprechaun mural down there tomorrow. They'll be open at 11 30am so come on down and heckle us while we work.
Anyway I was just going to let everyone know to go to dnj .com and vote for them on the Ruthie awards for best bar. Here is the rough idea. I'll post pics after we are done.

Funny quote from the late Mitch Hedberg.

"I'm tired of following my dreams. I've decided to find out where they are going and hook up with them later."

Backwater Blues

We visited a few galleries in Gatlinburg. . .standing next to a $7500 original oil by Jim Gray. If you are not familiar with Jim Gray (as I wasn't) He is an OUTSTANDING artist. Look him up.

Home from Gatlinburg .

As much as I hated to leave, we are back from a much needed trip to the mountains. It's been too long since Kim and I got away by ourselves. The cabin was in the arts and crafts community, and was very cool. It ended way too soon !

Here's the Basic Idea ;

So far I like this one best. It's going to be done in antique browns and greens. I am in the process of reworking the fullness of the leaves to better fill my calf , without taking up my whole leg. Any Suggestions ?

Getting a New Tattoo !

Well, I've thought long and hard and made up my mind . . .I'm going to see Sergio tomorrow .
I don't know how you all feel about tattoos, but being someone who's grown up with art, I like them.
Of course the design plays a major role in whether you look like trash or someone with a story, but, overall , I like the FOREVER ART.
For years , I have been wanting a peice to pay tribute to the "first" woman in my life ,"My Mother"

Trees mean a lot of things to a lot of people. For me, they remind me of the way we grew up.
The hills and woods of ( what Mom called ) "home". Being a little kid up in a big tree ,up on the side of the hill it seemed you could see everything. We also spent plenty of time hiding behind them , swinging from them ,and feeling the warm summer breeze as you just sat in their shade on a hot day. Just all around good times. Times my own kids are having today.
Simple pleasures are abundant if we just take the time to enjoy them.
( I need the constant reminder)
The "tree " also symbolizes wisdom.
( which is something you get, just after you need it.)
Mom was pretty wise for her young 47 years.
So for all the solid life lessons and the simple pleasures , For giving me strength to stand through the storms of life, Here's to you Mom.
We miss you .
I'll post some pics after I'm done

Deven's New Wheels

My 19 year old son Deven, just bought this 1990 F150 4x4. He's Sooo excited about it!
It needs a few odds and ends, but he got it on his own sweat and work.
I'm anxious to watch how much more it will mean to him that way.
Congratulations son , I'm proud of you.
Spoolies 5'x150' retainer wall.
That's me in 95'. That plaque I'm holding was about all I got for this first work. I way overestimated materials and underestimated my time. I think I made .35 cents an hour on this 30 day project. Ha Ha ! Live and Learn. It did lead to alot of other work though so all was not lost.

Yeah these were a long time ago. This Mural no longer exist since the bank bought the building last year. I noticed that I didn't have them included in here anywhere so I am adding them now. These were from my first mural in 95 . Actually this mural was the first thing I ever painted larger than 16x20. This retainer wall was 5' tall by 150' long. That's a big jump.

Goodbye ol' girl.

Today we lost a member of the family. Our 15 year old English Bulldog , Cagney . No matter how much you expect it to happen , you never seem ready when it does. We were told by the vet about a month ago that Bulldogs just don't live that long ( 8 - 13 years is the norm) and it was inevitable that her day was near. As much as we understood that it still wasn't easy to say goodbye. She was a good ol' girl and will be greatly missed . Here's to you Ol' Cag.
